New England extreme metal band Escuela Grind has released a music video for “Meat Magnet” featuring Napalm Death vocalist Barney Greenway, take from its upcoming EP “DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL” (Jan. 12, 2024, MNRK Heavy; pre-0rder here).
“‘Meat Magnet” is a pretty crunchy sort of track, and I was able to really wrap my vocal cords around it,” Greenway said. “Enthusiasm oozes out of the pores of Escuela Grind. How can you not get on board with that?”
“DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL” is the latest in a series of themed releases, including the 2020 EPs “PPOOWWEERRVVIIOOLLEENNCCEE” and “GGRRIINNDDCCOORREE,” which saw the band espousing its takes on the respective underground music sub-genres. “DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL” delivers the first new Escuela Grind music since the release of 2022’s full-length LP “Memory Theater.”
“‘DDEEAATHHMMEETTAALL’ is the third installment of our EP series where we dive into the genres that most influence this band,” vocalist Katerina Economou said. “Finishing this trilogy has been years in the works. We are so excited to release these songs as they are perhaps the best reflection of our live performance. The stage has honed these hectic songs to perfection. Originally we were going to have three songs on this EP, but we wanted to create another track that had a huge buildup. This eventually developed into this brutal song, ‘Ball and Chain,’ that marks the point in our live shows where we have a wall of death every night. Lyrically, it references death metal tropes of murder and revenge, but with a decidedly feminine angle.”
In sync with the EP release, Escuela Grind will launch a U.S. headlining tour on Jan. 10. The five-week, 39-city winter trek will crisscross the country, running through Feb. 17. Support will be provided by Take Offense, Come Meirda, Slow Pulse, Bonginator, Frog Mallet and Brat.
“AMERICA! We are coming to crush more poser flesh under our New Balances and Nikes under the command of Big Homo,” the band said. “We are so thrilled to have a wildly diverse range of bands touring with us and there’s a bunch of cities we haven’t been to in a while, so we’re stoked to throw down with all of you. We’ll be playing a bunch of new material, including our new EP and stuff from the upcoming album. This is your chance to hear the new shit before anyone else. We’ve been grinding hard on the road all year, and this is our first headliner since last April so expect a wilder, more skull cracking Escuela Grind experience. Be there. Karate kick your friends, get crushed in a wall of death, stage dive onto a teenager and show up with a black eye and broken nose at work the next day. This is going to be fucking wild. This is grinding deathviolence for the girls, the gays and the theys … and the lifers. See you there.”
