Exodus parts ways with vocalist Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza, Rob Dukes rejoins band

Veteran thrash metal act Exodus has parted ways with vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza and welcomed back Rob Dukes as his replacement. The band made the announcement Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, on social media.

Rob Dukes performs with Exodus in 2013.

Dukes previously fronted Exodus from 2005 to 2014 and appeared on four studio albums—”Shovel Headed Kill Machine” (2005), “The Atrocity Exhibition … Exhibit A” (2007), “Let There Be Blood” (2008) and “Exhibit B: The Human Condition”—as well as the live recording “Shovel Headed Tour Machine: Live at Wacken & Other Assorted Atrocities” (2010).

Dukes also is the vocalist of crossover thrash act Generation Kill, which has released three albums, most recently “MKUltra” in 2022.

Souza had three separate stints with Exodus, from 1986 to 1993, 2002 to 2004 and 2014 to 2025. He appeared on eight studio albums, including the band’s most recent, “Persona Non Grata” (2021).

Exodus released the following statement on the lineup change to social media:

“EXODUS have parted ways with Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza. We thank Steve for his years fronting the band and all the killer music we made during that time. We wish him only the best in the future and much success with anything he does.

“And please help us welcome Rob Dukes back to EXODUS! We are beyond stoked to have Rob back ripping up the stage with us and he’s looking forward to crushing everything like only he can.

“Next chapter begins, new record rolls along as planned and the beatings will continue.”

Exodus, founded in 1979 in the San Francisco Bay Area, also features guitarists Gary Holt and Lee Altus, bassist Jack Gibson and drummer Tom Hunting. In fall 2024, the band completed its first North American headline tour in many years. Its discography includes 11 studio albums and three live albums.
