After 25 years and eight studio albums, Mastodon and guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds have parted ways, according to a statement the band released Friday, March 7, 2025, to social media. The statement reads as follows:
“Friends and Fans, After 25 monumental years together, Mastodon and Brent Hinds have mutually decided to part ways.
“We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors. We are still very inspired and excited to show up for fans in this next chapter of Mastodon. As we move forward, all 2025 touring plans will remain intact. We look forward to seeing you on the road.”
The remaining members of Mastodon are bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher and drummer Brann Dailor.
This is Mastodon’s first official lineup change since 2001. The band formed the previous year in Atlanta, Georgia. Its most recent album, “Hushed and Grim,” was released in 2021, but the band has embarked on many tour since then, including co-headline runs with Gojira in 2023 and Lamb of God in 2024. The Infinite Arc Tour, a co-headline U.S. tour with Coheed and Cambria, is set for May and June 2025; go to mastodonrocks.com for more information.
