Longtime Rob Zombie bassist Matt “Piggy D.” Montgomery announced his departure from the band in an Instagram post. Zombie then followed that on the afternoon of Jan. 30, 2024, with a social media post confirming the return of former bassist Rob “Blasko” Nicholson.
Montgomery, who joined Zombie’s band in 2006 when Nicholson left to join Ozzy Osbourne’s band, wrote on Instagram: “Dear Friends. My time with Zombie has come to an end. It was an honor to entertain you for the last 18 years. I look forward to the future and wish everyone the best. Peace & Love, Matt Montgomery aka Count D., Piggy D., Giggles.”
“After 18 years Blasko has returned to the Zombie horde,” Rob Zombie posted. “The original four-string Zombie monster is back. Get ready for a crazy summer of mayhem.”
Montgomery, who also is a member of The Haxans with New Years Day vocalist Ash Costello, performed on the Zombie studio albums “Hellbilly Deluxe 2” (2010), “Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor” (2013), “The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser” (2016) and “The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy” (2021), as well as the live albums “Zombie Live” (2007), “Spookshow International: Live” (2015) and “Astro-Creep: 2000 Live” (2018).
Nicholson, who also is a member of the Black Sabbath tribute band Zakk Sabbath, previously played with Zombie from 1997 to 2006, appearing on the studio albums “Hellbilly Deluxe” (1998), “The Sinister Urge” (2001) and “Educated Horses” (2006).
In 2022, longtime guitarist John 5 left Zombie’s band when he joined Motley Crue. He was replaced by Mike Riggs, who previously was in Zombie’s band from 1997 to 2003 and performed on “Hellbilly Deluxe” and “The Sinister Urge.”
Drummer Ginger Fish has been with Zombie since 2011.
Earlier this week, Zombie announced the 2024 edition of the Freaks on Parade tour with Alice Cooper. The trek, also featuring Ministry and Filter, will hit 21 U.S. cities starting Aug. 20.
