Alice in Chains cancels headline shows, festival appearances due to drummer’s medical emergency

Alice in Chains has canceled its spring 2025 headline shows and festival appearances after drummer Sean Kinney suffered “a non-life-threatening medical emergency” after soundcheck on Thursday, May 8, before the band’s scheduled show at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

“After careful consideration and following the advice of medical professionals, we have made the decision to cancel our upcoming festival performances and the Alice in Chains headline shows,” the band said in a statement released Friday afternoon, May 9. “While we were all eager to return to the stage, Sean’s health is our top priority at this moment. Although the issue requires immediate attention, his long-term prognosis is positive.

“We sincerely appreciate your understanding and support during this time.”

Alice in Chains was scheduled to play the MMRBQ on May 10 in Camden, New Jersey; Sonic Temple on May 11 in Columbus, Ohio; Welcome to Rockville on May 16 in Daytona Beach, Florida; and Boardwalk Rock on May 17 in Ocean City, Maryland. The band also was set to play a handful of headline shows, including May 13 in Nashville, Tennessee, and May 17 in Dothan, Tennessee, in addition to appearing July 5 for the final Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne show in the U.K.

The Sonic Temple social media channels confirmed the cancelation and said more news was coming soon, while Boardwalk Rock is “actively working on a replacement,” according to its statement.
