Heavy metal supergroup Sun Don’t Shine to release debut album ‘From Birth to Death’ on April 1

Sun Don’t Shine, the new band featuring members of Type O Negative and Crowbar, will release its debut album, “From Birth to Death,” on April 1, 2026, via Corpse Paint Records. The supergroup also has shared its latest single, “Power to Live,” with a music video set to be released on Feb. 23.

Written by guitarist/vocalist Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative) and guitarist Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down), “Power to LIve” was recorded at OCD Studios Summer 2025, produced by Duane Simoneaux, co-produced by Vinnie LaBella and executive produced by Andrew Spaulding.

The song grew out of a conversation around the single’s cover art, when Hickey remarked how shameful it is that, as human beings, we haven’t evolved beyond killing one another. That observation became the song’s core: an acknowledgment of history’s repeated failures, paired with a refusal to surrender to them.

“The track is a challenge to the times we’re living in,” the band said, “an insistence on survival and consciousness in the face of cycles that refuse to break.”

Sun Don’t Shine collaborated with visual artist Nadiya Vizier (Crowbar/Sailor Bob tattoo) on the cover artwork for “Power to Live.” To mark the release, the band and artist are unveiling a limited art collaboration, available exclusively alongside the single.  The collection includes 100 posters autographed by Vizier, a custom sticker sheet, and 10 trucker caps featuring original artwork from the release. Each piece was created specifically for “Power to Live,” blending the song’s urgency and message with Vizier’s visual language.

Musically, “Power to Live” channels the band’s blend of heaviness and atmosphere—earth-shaking riffs, evocative melodies and a sense of dynamic push and pull.

The “Power to Live” video, directed by Mike Holderbeast, extends the song’s core themes into unsettling imagery. Rather than offering a literal narrative, the clip juxtaposes performance and atmosphere to underscore the tension between destruction and the will to endure.

In addition to Hickey and Windstein, Sun Don’t Shine (formerly known as Eye Am) features drummer Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Silvertomb) and bassist Todd Strange (Crowbar, Down).
