Guitarist Nita Strauss made history once again Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, as she played ex-teenage bandmate, Olympic medalist and (newly anointed) WBO and IBF Super Featherweight World Boxing Champion Mikaela Mayer to the ring for her groundbreaking title unification win over Maiva Hamadouche on ESPN Top Rank. The 12-round war was the first-ever female world title main event in the four-plus-year history of the Top Rank series. Fans can watch the official recap video featuring exclusive BTS footage below.
Strauss and Mayer have been friends since they were teenagers, when they played and toured together in Los Angeles metal band Lia-Fail. Once the short-lived band fell apart, both women went in separate directions with Mayer turning her focus to fighting and Strauss doubling down and further pursuing her career as a world-renowned guitarist, performer and solo artist. With both women now operating at the top of their respective games, the time was right to reunite and take to the stage together once again.
Strauss also recently released the single “Dead Inside” featuring David Draiman of Disturbed. The song is her first new music since her debut solo album, “Controlled Chaos,” in 2018 and her first-ever solo collaboration with a vocalist. In the weeks since the release, it has been the most added track at Active Rock Radio, already hitting the number 13 spot, clocking up over 1 million streams, 669,000 YouTube views and saw a 3600 percent rise in Strauss’s monthly listeners. Strauss, who is working on her second solo album, also recently announced that she will hit the road at the end of the year for her “Winter Wasteland 2021” headline tour. The trek will kick off Nov. 10 in New Orleans, Louisiana, and hit a further 28 cities across North America, culminating Dec. 18 in Angola, Indiana.
