Megadeth announces bassist James LoMenzo as permanent band member

Megadeth has named bassist James LoMenzo a permanent member of the band. LoMenzo was Megadeth’s bassist in the mid-2000s and stepped back in as a touring member starting with “The Metal Tour of the Year” in 2021.

“I am thrilled to welcome back James to the Megadeth family,” Dave Mustaine said. “James rejoined the fold as the touring bassist and it’s been a blast having him back, we thought let’s make it permanent.”

JamLoMenzo said: “I’m so excited to rejoin Megadeth and move forward full steam into the next phase of this iconic band’s history! With Dave, Kiko and Dirk there’s no stopping us! It just feels great to be home again.”

LoMenzo was a member of Megadeth from 2006 to 2010 and performed on the albums “United Abominations” (2007) and “Endgame” (2009). He left when original Megadeth bassist David Ellefson rejoined the band.

Ellefson was fired in 2021 after sexually explicit videos leaked online.

LoMenzo’s credits include time in Black Label Society and White Lion. Since 2020, he has been a member of Firstborne, featuring former Lamb of God (and, briefly, Megadeth) drummer Chris Adler.

Megadeth’s 16th studio album, “The Sick, the Dying … and the Dead,” is to be released in 2022. It will be the band’s first album since “Dystopia,” released in 2016. Steve Di Giorgio of Testament played all the bass tracks for the new record.

Later this year, Megadeth will join Five Finger Death Punch on a U.S. tour also featuring The HU and Fire from the Gods.
