Bewitcher shares new single ‘Starfire Maelstrom,’ new album ‘Spell Shock’ due Sept. 27

Portland, Oregon’s blasphemous Bewitcher has shared the new single “Starfire Maelstrom,” the first taste of its upcoming fourth full-length, “Spell Shock,” due Sept. 27, 2024, via Century Media Records. Watch the lyric video below, and stream or download the song here.

“It’s full of apocalyptic, speed demon vibes, and imagery taken from the worst of current events that only get more apocalyptic as time goes by,” Bewitcher frontman Mateo von Bewitcher said of the new single. “It’s the feeling you get from ‘Fight Fire with Fire’ on [Metallica’s] ‘Ride the Lightning.’ It’s immediate how it feeds into themes of human destruction and war, but also has cosmic elements. It’s a classic album opener.”

Joining Von Bewitcher, bassist A. Magus and drummer A. Hunter in the studio this time was longtime Bewitcher fan Lars Frederiksen of the punk band Rancid.

“It’s the best record I’ve ever produced for one of the best bands in the world,” Frederiksen said.

Bewitcher’s single release and album announcement come just in time for the band’s appearance at the Milwaukee Metal Festival on Friday, May 17. Bewitcher is on the road now with fellow Portland-based band Uada and Century Media labelmate Upon Stone for “The Shadows Return” tour, which will continue until May 28. More tour dates, including a fall North American tour and Bewitcher’s return to Europe, will be announced soon
