New hard rock act Sun Don’t Shine has returned with its next single, “Coming Down,” following the previous release of “The Promise Song.” Watch the music video below.
Sun Don’t Shine features an all-star lineup of Kenny Hickey (Type O Negative, Silvertomb), Kirk Windstein (Crowbar, Down), Johnny Kelly (Type O Negative, Silvertomb) and Todd Strange (Crowbar, Down).
“This song started as an acoustic strum thing,” Hickey said. “I only had the main vocal hook and chords when I brought it to the guys. It grew from there. The lyrical imagery tries to capture the outer-body feeling I get while meditating—particularly the feeling of falling through the earth.”
The accompanying video mirrors that heady, immersive vibe with a kaleidoscopic visual experience. Psychedelic and meditative, the clip was made all the more personal by the fact that Hickey’s daughter, Aliya, filmed his scenes —capturing the performance through a uniquely intimate lens.
Sun Don’t Shine aims to fuse the crushing riffs of Sabbath-era doom with atmospheric, melodic flourishes and emotionally honest songwriting that burns slow and hits hard.
“I don’t want our music to be one-dimensional,” Hickey said. “I want it to be both light and dark, dynamic and unpredictable.”
“As a huge fan of Type O Negative, I was really excited to be asked to be involved with this,” Windstein said. “We have a totally unique sound while putting all our influences together … I feel like it’s something new for this day and age to hear.”
